WHAT
More specifically, Gantry 5 (gantry.org), a WordPress framework from the guys at RocketThemes, the same ones who created Grav (getgrav.org), a flat file CMS rising in popularity. I choose Gantry 5 because it looked cool and I would like to build multiple themes from a WordPress framework as opposed to building each theme from scratch. Shortcuts can be very nice.
HOW
I downloaded the Gantry 5 plugin and the free starter themes, Helium and Hydrogen.
1st Joy: Then off to the documentation, which seems pretty thought out and comprehensive. Docs also include frequent video tuts.
1st Jerk: Themes require both plugin and theme to work. I feel that themes should work independent of plugins. But I think JavaScript should work without compiling too.
2nd Jerk: Theme LIVE mode just shows the Theme product page, nothing with existing content. Not pleased that Gantry themes do NOT function like normal themes in this regard. It is disruptive to work flow. So I guess I’ll have to activate to view. And the activated view includes no existing content.
3rd Jerk: Spent a few mins in docs and config to try to get a page showing posts. No luck.
4th Jerk: Realized that Gantry 5 is a page builder, NOT a theme framework, at least to my definition.
Conclusion
Lost patience…moving on.
May return after I settle down and fail to find a more perfect solution.
